Who are we and what do we believe ?

The core Christadelphian beliefs are:



  1. Bullet      The Bible is God's word and the only message from him. It is without error, except for copying and translation errors. (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1:1. See also: The Bible, Why I Believe the Bible, and Alleged Biblical Errors.)

  2. Bullet     There is only one God - the Father. The Holy Spirit is God's power. (John 17:3, Luke 1:35, Deuteronomy 6:4. See also God, Jesus and the Crucifixion, and The Trinity.)

  3. Bullet     Jesus is the Son of God, and also the son of a human being, his mother Mary, so making him Son of Man. Jesus was tempted just like us because of this. But Jesus was not just a great man, he was the Son of the Most High God, and was perfect. (Luke 1:30-31, John 3:18.See also God, Jesus and the Crucifixion, and The Trinity)

  4. Bullet     Man is mortal, having no existence when dead. (Psalm 6:5, Isaiah 38:18, Acts 2:29,34)

  5. Bullet     By living a sinless life, ending with his sacrificial death by crucifixion, Jesus has opened the way of salvation from death. (Hebrews 4:15, 1 Corinthians 5:7, 1 Corinthians15: 20-23, Galatians 3:27-29)

  6. Bullet     Belief and baptism are essential steps to salvation. (Mark 16:16. See also Baptism and Salvation.)

  7. Bullet     God raised Jesus from death. Jesus is currently in Heaven, on God's right hand. He will one day return. (Acts 10:40, Romans 8:34, Acts 1:11)

  8. Bullet     When Jesus returns, he will raise his "sleeping" followers from death and grant immortality to the faithful who have tried to live by God's precepts. (1 Corinthians 15:20-22)

  9. Bullet     His followers will help him to rule, bringing justice, righteousness and peace to the whole world - the Kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 15:23-26)

History


Mumbles Christadelphian Ecclesia (Greek for Church) is one of the oldest ecclesias in the Christadelphian community, and we have approximately 60 members across a wide range of ages. Christadelphians can be found in most towns in the UK and many countries across the world, all bound by a common set of beliefs based solely upon the Bible. Unlike many churches Christadelphians do not have priests, all services and talks are undertaken by members of the ecclesia and there is no central Christadelphian head office anywhere in the world.


Our meeting hall was built in 1850 (initially as a chapel but taken over by the newly formed Christadelphian ecclesia shortly afterward). After an extension in 1860 it could hold a massive 500 people seated with 300 in the body of the hall and the remainder in the gallery.  It is obvious from history that the hall has seen many changes over its 150 odd years and in 2007 it was refurbished totally inside. 


The hall is called Mt Zion, which is unusual, as most Christadelphian halls are simply called a hall. As our hall was initially built as a chapel it was given a name which still persists.


It was commonplace to call chapels in Wales by biblical names in the 1800’s  and the name Mt Zion speaks of the Mt. Zion to come. God has promised to set up a Kingdom centred in the mountains of Israel which will be established forever on the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to redeem the world from its present troubles (see for example Acts 3v19/21).
