Israel is only a tiny country, no bigger than Wales, but it has an enormous influence on world events. Situated next to the rich oilfields of the Middle East, and surrounded by Arab enemies, Israel has been hard pressed to survive. Four times in only 25 years, Israel has been involved in war, with her very survival at stake. But each time, she has emerged victorious. Without knowing it, she is fulfilling that ancient prophecy in Isaiah that “no weapon formed against Israel shall prosper,” and whatever may happen in the short term, this prophecy will certainly be fulfilled in the end. The Bible explains the miracle of Israel.
Listen, for example, to the prophecy of Ezekiel, written 2½ thousand years ago: “Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations . . . and will gather them . . . and bring them into their own land. I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel: and one king shall be king to them all.”
Part of this Bible prophecy has actually been fulfilled in our time, which shows we can trust the rest. Israel will have a king - that is, Jesus Christ, who will return to the earth to rule in Jerusalem, which will then be the capital of the whole world. At that time, the Lord’s prayer will be fulfilled: God’s kingdom will have come, and His will then be done on earth as it is now done in heaven.
Now that so many Jews are back in the land of their ancestors, this development in itself is one of the many signs in the Bible that the return of Christ is not far off.
So do open your Bible, and find out how you can share in the good things which God has prepared for those who seek to obey Him.
